Our History

Harlem Jazz Foundation is registered non-for-profit organization. In 1994, HJF produced a successful off Broadway production of "Billie Holliday- the Legend" which premiered at the Victoria Five theatre, then broadcast on WLIB radio. In 1995, HJF ran a continuous series of Jazz jams for fifteen weeks at Wells Restaurant in Harlem featuring all star musician. In December, in association with Birdland, Harlem Business Alliance and Poy Aeyers, HJF produced a benefit toy and luncheon for the children of Harlem Hospital affected by AIDS/HIV. In 1996 Harlem JAZZ Foundation has made a name for itself through the following successful accomplishments: Harlem Jazz Foundation's volunteer base (Board of Directors, Board of Advisors and Academic Committee) has grown to over 50. We are expanding the Friends of Harlem Jazz Foundation. We are housed at 646 Malcolm X Blvd. through Minisink Townhouse's Harlem Outreach Partnership Empowerment Center which allows us to provide cultural programs to the residents of Harlem. We have finalized a logo for all stationary, press materials and merchandising.
